We all know the feeling of our neighbour's fire or burglar alarm going off or a car alarm in the street. Rather than being on red alert for danger, you're more likely to find yourself complaining about the noise nuisance! The problem is alarms have become so technically advanced that their sensitivity has caused a large number of false alarms. This has led to people simply ignoring them, in addition to the sociological phenomena of people assuming somebody else will deal with the problem.
The Stats:
A report by Zurich Insurance found that 33% of Britons admit to ignoring alarms, despite the fact that 40% of people surveyed had a burglar or car alarm themselves. Two out of three of the 1,100 people in the study reported that other people's alarms had disturbed their sleep.
Do Alarms Work?
Despite these stats an alarm can still scare off an intruder, but a seasoned criminal may be able to stop the alarm by cutting the wires or could simply be undeterred as they are aware of the likelihood that a neighbour will come and check. It is therefore highly recommended that other measures are taken to secure your home or commercial premises.
A Safer Option:
Burglar alarm monitoring is a solution to combat people's complacency, as the alarm not only rings but sends a signal through to a monitoring centre who can contact the police and the key-holder to ensure action is taken.
Alarm monitoring such as this has been a proven and trusted method for BWS Standfast for many years, with burglar alarm installations spanning the South West of England, with notable success stories in Weston Super Mare and surrounding areas of Bristol.
The Ultimate Security:
We offer two options that can outwit even the smartest burglar. As many monitoring centres are contacted through a telephone call, burglars could locate the telephone line and cut it before entering, that's why we created the DualCom GPRS and Redcare GSM systems. The DualCom GPRS system sends a message to the monitoring centre using up to three channels: a telephone line (does not have to be BT line), an IP connection and a WorldSIM card so the unit will always find the best signal from the four major networks. If one of these channels is compromised an alarm is sent via one of the other channels. Or the Redcare GSM system uses two channels in the same way: BT telephone line and the O2 radio network.
Cheaper Insurance:
Another advantage to using a monitored burglar alarm is that due to its increased security it can result in lower insurance premiums.
